I completed a Commercial job earlier and now have an hour before a client meeting. As usual my meetings take place in my local Costa (no local coffee shops who are independent), so I am currently sitting here sipping my coffee with the following going through my mind,
Do you need qualifications to be a successful full time photographer?
Now, I'm talking about photography based qualifications, not your GSCE Maths (although that is very important to understand margins, something many photographers I know do not grasp). I have Diplomas in Photography, Studio Lighting, Wedding (for my sins) and Portrait photography! Could I do what I do now without them?
Well, yes, but I believe I do a better job with them. It's not the piece of paper at the end of a course, its the learning and knowledge you gain whilst completing it.
We all need to carry on learning, but perhaps my days of more qualifications are over. Who wants a few days photography with me and we can learn from each other!!!
Photollery follows my passion for photography. I am lucky to be a full time photographer, I just hope one day my Photollery work is good enough to gain a wider audience and keep me supplied with coffee!
